Help: Pest Map

Using the Map

The map utility provides assistance in selecting a station. Stations are represented by beetles, and the name of the station is displayed when the mouse moves across it. The controls on the left zoom in (+), zoom out (-), move up, down, left, right, or to the last result. You can also zoom by using the wheel button on a mouse. Select a station by clicking it. The bottom-right corner shows which area the larger map is currently showing.

Map Choices

In the top right corner, if Map is clicked you will see a basic map with cities roads, and state boundaries.

If satellite is clicked, you will see a map of actual satellite imagery.

If hybrid is clicked, you will see the map of actual satellite images with cities, roads and state boundaries.

Selecting the Biofix and End Dates

Once you have selected a station, it will show up at the right. To view the degree days and suggested pest management, you must select a pest and provide biofix and end dates. The biofix will be filled in with the recommended date. This may be a fixed date (always the same date, regardless of station), a biofix that has been established through field research and tracking of this pest at the selected station, or a default biofix date. Using a different value for this may give incorrect results.

The end date may be no later than today's date.

Using the Search Results Table

After you select the station, pest, dates and click submit, you are directed to the Degree Day Calculator & Pest Management Information Search Results. A table displays the date, degree days, maxiumum and minimum temperatures for the day, and pest-specific percentage information for five days before the specified end date, and four days following. Dates followed by (M) did not have accurate data and were modelled by nearby weather station data. Days followed by (F) are forecasted because they have not happened yet.

Below is a table of Pest Management Actions for the selected pest. If the mouse is over a date in the above table, the appropriate management action (if any) will be highlighted in the table below.
